2006 Demuth Vineyard Pinot Noir
(Boonville, Anderson Valley, Mendocino County)
The Demuth familyís vineyard is only a mile up the road from Abbey-Harris and shares similar, though less rocky, soils. Our two 1.5 acre blocks function as two sites: the terraced rows of the W‰denswil clone form one section, while the Pommard block sits on a shelf a bit lower down the slope. Afternoon winds, cool temperatures, and twenty-year-old vines create a wine of depth and perfumed elegance. This vineyard yielded just one ton per acre in 2006.
Elegance and purity are the hallmarks of our Demuth. The cool temperatures preserve the wineís backbone, which is endowed with both balance and finesse. Intense black cherry and rose petal dominate the nose. Mineral flavors show in the mouth, with long finishing flavors of wet earth and cacao. Typically low yields have created depth and a broad, resinous structure.
